Effect Of S.0me Concrete Admixtures On Corrosion Behaviour Of Reinforcing Steel

Omnia El Said Mohamed Shehata;

Abstract

Corrosion of the reinforcing steel in concrete has become the major cause of the infrastructure deterioration in many parts of the world. Recently, the use of certain chemical compounds, as concrete admixture, to improvb
the quality of the concrete, requires apparent quantitativ
information on the effect of these admixtures on th
reinforcement corrosion.

This thesis is concerned with studying the corrosion behaviour of reinforcing steel embedded in cement pasteJ without and with different concentrations of some various\ types of concrete admixtures used in Egypt. The effect of\ admixtures on passivity of steel and corrosion resistance against surrounding aggressive media simulating some of the most severe conditions that could conferm the concrete, namely, 3.5% NaCl, 5% NaCl and 5% MgS04
solutions has been investigated. The study was carried out
using different electrochemical techniques such as, impressed current method, impressed voltage method and potentiodynamic polarization method.

The thesis includes three chapters. Chapter I "Introduction and theoretical background " concerns with fundamentals and types of concrete admixtures. A literature survey on the previous researches and the aim of the present work are also including in this chapter.
