The use of Placental Thickness during Pregnancy by Abdominal U/S as Predictor for Neonatal Outcome

Abstract

he aim of the work is to assess the accuracy of placental thickness in estimating fetal weight by u/s during pregnancy and neonatal outcome (Apgar score) in healthy pregnant women. This prospective observational study was conducted at Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital at pre labor unit from April, 2018 to April, 2019 . Ninty healthy uncomplicated pregnant women at term pregnancy were recruited, after fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study was conducted on ninty pregnant women aged(18-35) years old with BMI(18.5-25 kg/m2) with Singleton pregnancy and gestational age is 37-40 weeks and they had admitted for elective cesarean section. They were equally devided in 3 groups A,B, and C each group consists of 30 healthy pregnant women according to placental thickness. Group A: Thin placental thickness group <3cm. Group B: Normal placental thickness group (3-4 cm) Group C: Thick placental thickness group >4cm.
