Chest Ultrasound Patterns in Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients with and Without HIV

Abstract


This study was a prospective comparative cross sectional study conducted on 50 patients admitted in Abbassia Chest Hospital newly diagnosed as pulmonary tuberculosis with sputum positive for acid fast bacilli or gene xpert positive. They are classified into two groups according to their HIV status:
Group I: 25 pulmonary TB patients with HIV negative.
Group II: 25 pulmonary TB patients with HIV positive.
The aim of this study was to assess chest ultrasound findings in pulmonary tuberculosis patients with and without HIV who admitted in Abbassia Chest Hospital.
From this study, the following results were obtained:
Infiltration was significant more frequent chest x ray finding in group II (TB with HIV positive patients).
The results of our study showed that there was no significant difference between both groups regarding chest ultrasound findings.
The most frequent chest ultrasound finding was subpleural nodules. It present in all patients. Shred sign present in 84% of both groups. Sub pleural consolidation present in all patients of group I and in 88% of group II. Pleural effusion present in 20% of group I, and in 28% of
