Abstract

Pufferfishes are the- most dangerous poisonous in the world.Ihis work represents the. first trail in.Egypt.in elucidating the effect of the crude TTX toxin of the pufferfish, Lagocephalus sceleratus,, on brain neurotransmitter. The (LD100) and (LD5o) doses of
crude TIX were found. to. be 41.8 and 27 .9 m,
respectively for skin as well as 8.33 and 6.26 mg/kg,
respectively for gonads. A total number of 312 adult male Swiss albino-rats were used and divided into 3 main groups as follow: Group I: Normal control. Group 11 (Gr.II): received a single dose of 10% LD50 (i.p) of
skin extract and scarified 2 4; 6; 8, and 12hours pest
injection, Group III (Gr.III): received a single dosof
10% LD50 (i.p) of gonads extract scanfied after 2, 4;•6,
8, 12, 24 and 48 hours of injection. The maximum

increase of whole brain. serotonin was observed after, 4 hours of. injection in. both. groups 11 and. .lll. Brain
acetylchohne, histamine and norepinephrine exhibited the same behavior reaching its maximum peak after 6 hours• of injection. The more• profound effect and long duration action- was- • noticed in rats.. of Gr111. Non
