A STUDY OF SEDIMENTATION IN HYDRAULIC CHANNELS
Usama Mohammed A. M. SAIED;
Abstract
Sedimentation in navigation channels can be considered one of the most costly problems in Egypt. Therefore, it is important to study this problem depending on field data. This study is focused on the access channel of Damietta Port, Egyptian port located at the northern coast, which is know to receive huge amount of sediments annually.
The study•
• First, the introduction discussed the historical background of Damietta area and the coastal structures and their effect on the shoreline. In addition, the author mentions the aim of the study, which is the development of a model representing the sedimentation phenomenon in Damietta Port access channel. The statistical models are known to yield the best accuracy, so it is suggested to develop a statistical model, as the field data are available. Finally, the author mentions the steps of his study.
• Second, the author dedicates a chapter for the study of sedimentation in • navigation channels in general. This chapter introduces . the previously well known mathematical models used for modeling the sedimentation in navigation channels. In addition, this chapter introduces the new trends for studying sedimentation, which are mainly based on field data. Finally, the author summarized the
