Abstract
Zooplanktons are aquatic organisms, very weak swimmers and they drift in water column of oceans, seas or freshwater bodies. This work aimed to study the favorable ecological conditions suitable for culturing of one zooplankton species from Lake Manzalah, Egypt. The extraction of the cultured species screened for bioactive compounds as antitumor, antibacterial and antioxidant activity.
Ecological studies of this work was performed during the period from winter, 2017 to autumn, 2017. During the present study, the physiochemical parameters fluctuated from season to another and through sites. The highest value of water temperature was recorded at site 5 being (32.6 °C) in summer while the highest average value (8.66) of pH was showed in site 4. The highest value of salinity (29 ‰) was recorded at site 5 during spring but the lowest one (11 ‰) occurred at site 5 during winter.
Regarding to dissolved oxygen, the highest value (10 mg/l) was recorded at site 1 during winter while the highest value of BOD (8.5 mg/l) was recorded at site 1 during winter. At the same time, the highest value of NH4 (3726.5 µg/l) was recorded at site 1 during winter and the highest value of NO2 (304.91 µg/l) was recorded at site 4 during winter, while the highest value of NO3 (713.11 µg/l) was recorded at site 4 during winter.
