Abstract

The head of stapes in otosclerosis has been found to be frequently affected, exhibiting marked thickening and even deformity, it may contain areas of fibrous bone resorption and gland like structures within the fibrous tissue.[Friedmann, 1974].
The most common lesion observed in the head of otosclerotic stapes was porosis with large areas of loos connective tissue replacement in the neck areas. In addition, only a thin layer of bone may be seen under the articulating cartilage of the incudo-stapedial joint. [Wright, 1977]
We tried in our present work to study the immuno-histological

findings in stapes-suprastructure in otosclerosis in relation to the state of

deafnessand its prognosis after stapedotomy.

I We have examined 30 patients diagnosed as otosclerosis, the diagnosis was confirmed by the induced mobility of the handle of malleus

with a needle did not leaded to mobility ofthe stapes and probing of the stapes with a needle had confirmed its fixation and this fixation was not due to tympanosclerosis. After prosthesis replacement, there was transmitted mobility from the handle of malleus to the prosthesis.
After performing stapedotomy and removal of stapes-suprastructure, we started our immunohistological study which showed that specimens •
