Abstract

The outcome of ACL tears treated nonsurgically remains controversial. Whether the natural history of untreated ACL tears is good or bad depends largely on the evaluator'.s bias of what constitutes a good result The data from the vast m jority of studies document that ACL deficient knees do not function normally: there is a high . incidence of symptoms and limitations on physical activities and reinjury and subsequent meniscal tears are common. Following an ACL tear, many knees function well for activities of daily living and for some sports that require no twisting, cutting, or jumping: Participation in level I and level li sports ( which require frequent twisting, cutting, and jumping ), however, will be significantly reduced and frequently will produce symptoms. Risk factors for future disability related to the ACL include the following
