The Study of Anti Streptolysine 0 Titre In Normal and Rheumatic Ch

Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out the actual ASOT among Egyptian children . It is useful to know that rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease represent the main cause of death and disability among school children in the developing countries. However it is a recurrent disease that can usually be prevented.
The study was carried on 100 children attending the cardiology unit at Tanta University Hospital and is suffering from rheumatic fever with its various manifestation.
Another I 00 healthy children of the same age were taken as control
to determine the normal ASOT level.
All children have been submitted to ECG, X Ray, ECHO, ASOT&
throat swab.
Our findings were the followings:
1-The ASOT is the most reliable and easiest test to be performed.
2-In only about 80% of cases proved to have streptococcal upper respiratory infection throat show positive ASOT.
3-The mean values and upper limit of ASOT increase with age.
4-The maximum level of the normal ASOT is higher than previously reported in Egyptian children.
