ASSESSMENT THE ROLE OF DOPPLER ULTRASONOGRAPHY VERSUS ANGIOGRAPHY IN DIAGNOSIS OF PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL LESIONS IN GHARBIA GOVERNORATE

OMAR AHMED MOHAMED HASSANEAN;

Abstract

There is no doubt that evaluation of peripheral vascular diseases has been facilitated by the introduction ofcolor duplex sonography.

This work aims to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of duplex scanning
I versus angiography in peripheral arterial diseases.
We had examined (62) patients. with lo\ver extremity arterial disease

(44) patients were males and (18)patients were females. The commonest age
I group in this study was above 60 years due to prevalence of atherosclerosis .
I Our patients . e classified into three main patho.logical groups:
a- lschaemic group (44) patients
I b- Traumatic.$roup (12) patients
I c- Group of soft tissue and bony masses with vascular component (6)
patients.
I Regarding the clinical presentation, claudication was the most frequent
I symptom and was present in 32 patients.
fA/ lscltaemic group:

This group included (44) patients Thirty n1ne (39) patients had thrombo-embolic disease while five patients had atherosclerotic aneurysms. Regarding the thirty nine patients with arterio-occlusivc disease, thirty six patients had unilateral disease while three patients had bilateral lower limb arterial occlusive disease, so total number of (42) limbs were included in
this study. Eleven segments in each limb were,.evaluated by both color duplex sonography and angiography namely common iliac artery (C.I.A.), external
