A Comparative Study Of Nitroglycerine And Magnesium Sulfate For Treatment Of Preterm Labour

Abstract


This study was carried out on eighty patients with preterm labor pains before completed thirty-six weeks of gestation who were admitted to Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Tanta University Hospitals. The patients were selected according to previously specified selection criteria, which were the followings: Definite uterine contractions. Effective cervical changes (dilatation and/or effacement). Gestational age between twenty-four and thirty six weeks calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period and ultrasonographic examination. Intact fetal membranes.
All the patients after fulfilling the above criteria were treated with intravenous magnesium sulphate. This drug used to control the acute episode ofpreterm labor pains, and had at least twelve hours of uterine quiescence. After that the patients' classified randomly to the four groups as follow:



Group 1:

This group consists of twenty patients. These patients received oral magnesium sulfate capsule. Each capsule contains 419.5-ing. magnesium sulfate tri-hydrate every four hours as maintenance
tocolytic agent.




Group II:

This group consists of twenty patients. These patients received nitroglycerine patch (Nitroderm 5- TTS). Each patch contains twenty­
• five mg. glyceryl tri-nitrate and deliver five-mg.
