. RANIA AHMED MOHAMED;

Abstract

This study evaluated accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging in preoperative diagnosis of orofacial soft tissue neoplasms. Ten patients were clinically examined and complete data were taken from them.
Full patient's history was taken to fulfill the following data: Age, sex, onset, duration of the tumors, any recent increase in size of the tumors, and pain.

All patients were undergoing to the following investigations in clinical •examination: Site of the mass, size, shape, palpation, surface texture, color, lymphatic involvement, and palpable lymph nodes.

MRI was made preoperatively for all patients. The evaluation was done as regards: Localization, border, peripheral extension of the mass, size of the lesions, presence of lymph node and metastasis.

Accuracy of MRI in differentiation between malignant and benign neoplasms was 100% in T2- weighted images according to tumor border. The same percentage was seen in Tl-weighted images in malignant cases while it was 50% in benign cases.
