Abstract

We report a 14 year old girl who developed myxedema coma, a rare life-threatening condition that has not been reported before in patients with aplastic anemia and iron overload. Treatment consisted of L-thyroxine, supportive measures and appropriate management of infection. In addition, the patient was treated with glucocorticoids in stress doses. After 17 days of hospitalization she was discharged in stable condition on L-thyroxine (75 μg daily) and intensive iron chelation therapy. After 35 days, the FT4 and TSH levels were in the normal range.
