Abstract

Globally, over 1 billion people live with disabilities, which represents around 15% of the world's population. Disability is one of the human rights issues with high priority, as people with disabilities suffer from stigma, discrimination, and inequality in some societies.
Certain categories of persons with disabilities, such as women, are subject to multiple violations of their rights، because of their sex and their disabilities. The disability factor could intersect with the gender, leading to a higher level of discrimination against women.
Discrimination on the basis of sex and disability is recognized by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Although the states undertake to guarantee the full exercise of women and girls with disabilities of their rights, the constitutional and legal applications in this field is very limited. In this regard, the current study will tackle the problem of multiple discrimination, from the perspective of constitutional recognition of this right, and the degree of sufficiency of the legal provisions to ensure equality between women and men suffering from same types of disability.
