Assessment of Cognitive Impairments in Immune Thrombocytopenia Patients and Its Relation with Lines of Management and Treatment Response
Haydi Sayed Mohammed Ibrahim;
Abstract
diopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), also known as primary immune thrombocytopenic purpura and is defined as isolated thrombocytopenia with normal bone marrow and in the absence of other causes of thrombocytopenia. ITP has two distinct clinical syndromes, manifesting as an acute condition in children and a chronic condition in adults.
Cognitive failures questionnaire used as a tool to assess the prevelance of cognitive symptoms by measure the frequency of cognitive slips occurring in everyday life, the cognitive abilities assessed in CFQ are memory, concentration, attention, fogetfulness, word finding abilities and confusion.
The questionnaire consists of 25 items covering failure in perception, memory, motor function and ask the patients to rate how these failures occur on 5 point scale of 0-4 (0= never, 4= very often) and the response of 25 added together to obtain the total score, the higher score the greater cognitive impairement. The total score range 0-100, with a higher score reflecting a higher frequency of cognitive failure. A score ranging from 67-100 indicating high cognitive failure, from 34-66 indicating moderate, and 0-33 indicating low propensity to cognitive failure good executive function. The scale has been tested for its reliability by the original authors. Cronbach‟s alpha for the instrument was found to be 0.91
We found in our study that no significant difference found between patients and controls as regard CFQ
