Randomized Comparative Study between Using Harmonic Scalpel versus Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator with Bipolar Cautery in Living Donor Hepatectomy for Living Donor Liver Transplantation

Dr. Mohammed Kamal Abd Elwahed Semary;

Abstract

Organ donation is a noble human gift that should be respected, this necessitates minimization of donor complications as much as possible, and the surgeons must safely perform living donor liver resection
There is evident controversy concerning which of the techniques used in parenchymal resection is the safest and the most efficient in open donor LDLT. It has a great effect on intraoperative bleeding, blood transfusion, postoperative blood loss, bile leakage and survival, which is why this topic remains under scanning.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, safety and effectiveness of using CUSA & bipolar diathermy for liver resection in LDLT and its short-term benefits with follow up evaluation in comparison with using harmonic scalpel alone.
