Comparative Study between Level 1 Oncoplasty and Round Block Excision in Management of Early Stage Breast Cancer

Abstract


Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer in women and the world's second most common cancer. About 268,600 newly diagnosed women with invasive illness in the United States in 2019. Therefore, the aim of the present thesis was to review the literature of the management of early stage breast cancer and compare between 2 conservative breast surgeries which is round block technique and level one oncoplasty technique.
Anatomy of the breast, pathophysiology of breast cancer, clinical presentation of the patients, risk factors for breast cancer, staging and grading of breast cancer and different modalities in management of breast cancer were reviewed.
In this study, 78 patients with early stage breast cancer were managed by conservative breast surgery between December 2020 and January 2022 patients were divided in 2 groups with 39 patients in each group. In the first group, were treated by circumareolar technique and in the second group, breast cancer treated by round block technique. The 2 techniques were compared according to operative time, cosmetic appearance postoperative, incidence of complications and patients’ satisfaction.
