Fatema Mohammad Saleh Sayed;

Abstract

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the major causes of death and disability among young adults, it accounts annually for 10 million cases worldwide.
TBI is classified to mild, moderate and severe according to the presence of serious effects as intra-cranial hemorrhage, loss of consciousness, skull fracture and amnesia. TBI also may be followed by edema of the brain tissue, tearing and brain tissue damage. Those serious effects are followed by catastrophic complications and serious life-threatening impacts on a person’s life that may appear immediately after trauma or on the long- term. One of the most important sequelae is the occurrence of post-traumatic seizures (PTS).
Post traumatic epilepsy (PTE) is diagnosed in 20% of individuals with acquired epilepsy. PTS and PTE decrease the quality of life as they interfere with brain functions of the patient and render him socially unaccepted, thus they form a great burden on the patient and his family.
