Recent Methods of Neck Femur Fixation
Ramy Mohamed Mohamed El-Bahnasy;
Abstract
Femoral neck fractures in young patients are not common as in elderly as it always needs high energy trauma mechanism, it’s always associated with other injuries, It is an intracapsular femur fracture which is divided into displaced and undisplaced fracture.
It always needs urgent reduction and fixation due to the fear of its two most common complications which are avascular necrosis (AVN) of femoral head (45%) and fracture non union (35%).
Asystematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of different methods of internal fixation of intracapsular fractures of the neck of femur on the development of late complications, particularly osteonecrosis of femoral head, revesion, shortening and non-union.
Types of included studies
Randomized control trails and Retrospective studies comparing the results of multiple cannulated screws and targon femoral neck plate in English language published from 2009 to
2018. Retrospective studies and prospective studies showing the results of multiple cannulated screws, Targon plate, Non parallel screws, medial plate in treatment of neck femur fractures in English language published from 2009 to 2018.
Our meta-analysis has provided evidence that Targon plate recorded low incidence of complications in the final outcome in comparison with multiple cannulated screw while further studies for application of non parallel screws and medial plate are needed. For clinical application, decisions in accordance with specific conditions should be considered.
