Abstract

Clostridial myonecrosis (also known as gas gangrene) is a life-threatening necrotizing soft tissue infection caused by Clostridium perfringens fast multiplication and spread from a contaminated wound. Excruciating muscle pain, edoema with consequent skin colouring (red-purple to black), and gas production are all part of the clinical picture. Crepitus is commonly seen, as is a gas feathering pattern in soft tissue imaging. Gas gangrene is almost always fatal if left untreated; however, surgical debridement combined with antibiotic therapy lowers symptoms by half.
So, We focused on the isolation of C. perfringens and testing antibiotics that can affects on growth of C. perfringens, thus helps in treatment of gas gangrene to avoid amputation of limbs, these bacteria secrete exotoxins, particularly alpha toxin, a phospholipase that degrades phospholipids and causes tissue destruction, inhibition of leukocyte function, and gas production. The gas separates healthy tissue, facilitating colonisation and causing more local tissue destruction. Anaerobic conditions are exacerbated further by the development of edema. There are other methods for treatment of gas gangrene other than antibiotic treatment like oxygen therapy, maggot therapy
