This emphasizes on the importance of clarifying its etiology and developing targeted therapies or preventive measures. Although obesity is caused primarily by alterations in the energy consumption/expenditure balance, the complex interplay of host genetics with diet and gut microbiota is suggested to play a significant role in this disequilibrium.
