Mothers’ Awareness about Poisoning Prevention among Their Children under Five Years

Esraa Aatef Dawood Romeeh;

Abstract

hildren under the age of 5 are a high-risk group of unintentional poisoning as they are curious and explore their world with all their senses, including taste. As a result, the home and its surroundings can be dangerous places when poisonous substances are inadvertently ingested. Most cases of poisoning in children occur at home and in presence of their mothers (CDC, 2019).
The most significant types of poisoning agents are household products such as cleaning agents, common pharmaceuticals, pesticides, poisonous plants, bites and stings. Kerosene, gases, carbon monoxide and food poisoning are from the primary causes of unintentional poisoning in children younger than five years (Bandyopadhyay& Mandal, 2017).
