Abstract


SUMMARY
Hypothyroidism is a common disorder, with a prevalence of approximately 5% and incidence of approximately 250 /100,000 per year in the adult population both prevalence and incidence keep raising.
Levothyroxine is the recommended hormone for replacement therapy in both overt and subclinical hypothyroidism.
There is a frequently encountered subset of hypothyroid patients (20-28%) who are refractory to standard thyroid hormone replacement treatment and require unexpectedly high doses of levothyroxine.
In addition to clinical situations were hypothyroid patients are non compliant, therapeutic failure may due impaired absorption of administered drug. Dietary fiber and coffee impair with Levothyroxine Absorption, malabsorption also reported in disorder Such as H pylori infection, atrophic gastritis and celiac disease.
