COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN LOW DOSE ASPIRIN AND EVENING PRIMPROSE OIL. WITH GARLIC EXTRACT IN TREATMENT OF PREGNANCY INDUCED HYPERTENSION

Abstract

SUMMARY
Pregnancy can induce hypertension in
✓- normotensive or aggravates already existing
hypertension. Generalized edema, proteinuria, or both may also accompany pregnancy induced or aggravated hypertension (preeclampsia). If hypertension is untreated, convulsions may develop resulting in the picture of eclampsia.
Pre-eclampsia is a leading cause of fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality, especially in under-developed countries. Early detection and appropriate treatment may prolong pregnancy long enough to ensure a satisfactory outcome for both mother and fetus.
Pre-eclampsia is associated with deficient intravascular production of prostacyclin and excessive production of thromboxane. These findings and the evidence for activation of the clotting system in pre-eclampsia with early involvement of platelets had led to the use of antiplatelets agents in an attempt to prevent or ameliorate the condition.
In this study, 90 pregnant women with mild pregnancy induced hypertension (> 140/90) were randomly selected· and divided into three equal groups A, B and C, that matched with respect to age, gravidity, duration of pregnancy and the initial blood pressure measurements.
