Abstract

The goals of epilepsy treatment are to improve the patients quality of life, and to control seizures without the patients having to tolerate

etiology and• type of syndrome or seizures some drugs may even aggravated certain epileptic syndromes.

• The aim of the present work is to evaluate the effect of the AEDs on the growth of children with idiopathic epilepsy as well as the effect on growth hormone profile.

This study included 40 children ( 20 males 20 females) who all had idiopathic epilepsy they were classified according to history of previous antiepileptic treatment into 2 groups group I children with idiopathic epilepsy and were receiving different single or combination antiepileptic therapy (20. patient) and group II children with idiopathic epilepsy not receive any antiepileptic therapy before also 20 normal children of the same age group were served as control (group 111).

All cases were subjected to full history taking detailed general and neurological examination as well as EEG and growth hormone assay.

We found that genetics play a role in localization related symptomatic Epilepsy.
