Dental Arch Asymmetry In Egyptian Children in the mixed dentition

Abstract


This study was carried out on 40 Egyptian Children, of both sexes, their ages ranged from 6-12 years. This sample was selected from out­
patients attending Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Cairo University.

The subjects were selected according to the following criteria:

1. There was no history of previous orthodontic treatment.

2. There was availability of good quality dental models.

3. There was no lateral functional mandibular shift on closure as revealed in the clinical history and in clinical examination.

4. There was absence of facial trauma history or medical conditions that could affect the growth of the jaws.

5. There was full dentition in both arches through the first permanent molars.
The selected children were classified into two age groups; the first group was from 6 years to 8 years and the second group from 9 years to 12
years.

In this study dental arch asymmetry in the transverse and anteroposterior directions was described and quantified in a sample of
children in mixed dentition. At the same time, this study related the possible
- etiological factors to asymmetry.
