Impact of the Shop Drawings on the Cost Estimate for the Construction Projects

Abstract

This study started with some definitions as an introduction for the topic of this research, like shop drawings, contract document and cost estimating process and others. Then, the study mentioned the types and sequence of the drawings in arrangement during any construction project. After that, the study tackled the importance of the accuracy of the cost estimation process and the most important factors that may cause cost variance, due to the inaccuracy of a project's cost estimation, through a literature review of the topic of the research. In the chapter of data collection and methodology, the methodology has been stated for this study and everything related to the questionnaire, like the design, sample size/type and general information about the participants in the questionnaire. Then every datum, collected through the questionnaire, is analyzed in the chapter of data analysis and discussion of results, using Pareto analysis chart/theorem. In addition, several interviews were held with several experts/engineers with regard to the topic of the research, and more than one case study was referred to. Finally, the research has reached several conclusions mentioned through this chapter in addition to several recommendations needed to find the best way for estimating the cost for any construction projects in the future.
