LEFT VENTRICULAR MASS INDEX IN HYPERTENSIVE DIABETIC PATIENTS ON INSULIN THERAPY
. Ahmed Mohamed Barakat;
Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most common health problems all over the world now and considered a very high risk factor for disability in the population especially when combined with cardiovascular disease. Nearly all the morbidity of this disease is related to cardiovascular diseases. The morbidity and mortality from diabetes mellitus combined with cardiovascular disease is directly proportional to the duration of the disease with higher prevalence among insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) than non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).
In our study we evaluated the left ventricular mass index by using the two dimensional (2-D) ECHO in assessment of the left ventricular mass.
This study includes 45 hypertensive patients that were
divided into the following 3 groups:
• Group A: consist of 15 hypertensive diabetic patients (type I diabetes mellitus) on insulin therapy (more than lOyears).
• Group B: consist of 15 hypertensive diabetic patients (type II diabetes mellitus) on oral hypoglycemic drugs(more than lOyears).
