Abstract

The research was designed to investigate the influence of direct and indirect inlay fabrication techniques on the interfacial accuracy of three tooth-colored inlay restorative materials which were a resin-based composite, a ceromer and a copy-milled ceramic inlays.
Standardized class II occlusoproximal inlay preparations were performed in 15 extracted, sound human upper premolars. Elastomeric impressions for the 15 premolars were taken in a stock tray and then poured using extra hard stone to provide 15 model dies. Each tooth and die received the three types of the tooth-colored restorative inlays for standardization purposes so as to have 45 specimens for the direct and 45 specimens for the indirect technique, thus giving a total of 90 specimens.
The inlays were fabricated according to the manufacturer's
I instructions. For the resin-based composite and ceromer inlays which are light-activated resinous materials, bulk placement of the materials was

allowed in the cavities alter being lubricated using a separating medium. Procuring of the inlays was performed using the Targis Quick curing unit for 20 seconds. This was followed by subjecting the restorations to a light/heat cycle in the Targis Power for a period of 25 minutes for final polymerization after being removed from their cavities. As for the copy• milled ceramic inlays, they were fabricated in the Celay Plus machine by tracing a pro-inlay which is a blue resinous material modeled inside the cavity to act as a duplicate to be copied. Tracing of the pro-inlay was done by placing it in the scanning compartment of the machine to allow milling or a prefabricated ceramic block known as Vita Celay blank
It placed in the milling compartment synchronously.

Assessment of the interfacial gap was performed using the direct digital radiography known as Digora. Each inlay was placed inside its cavity and subjected to an x-ray beam using a cordless sensor. A standardized radiographic technique was performed including a target-
