Abstract

Plasma fibronectin
weight glycoprotein
1s an adhesive high molecular
present on cell surfaces, In
extracellular fluids and on cellular basement membranes. This glycoprotein consists of two identical covalently linked subunits that are approximately formed of 2000 amino-acids residues. The maJor sources of pI asma fibronectin include hepatocytes macrophages and endothelial cells.
Cellular fibronectin IS essential for cell to cell and ce II to substratum contacts. Meanwhile plasma fibronectin plays a central role In wound healing. It regulates fibrin formation and modulates reticuloendothelial clearance of collagenous depris, injured platelets, immune complexes and some bacteria.
Both cellular and plasma fibronectin participate In
maintaining microvascular integrity
permeability. Fibronectin helps In
and vascular
restoration of
cytoskeleton. Fibronectin also has an important role In elimination of malignant transformation. Serum levels of fibronectin were found to be decreased In cases of infection and burns.
