Studies on the Radiochemical Behavior of Some Significant Elements in Nuclear Field Using Ion Exchange and Solvent Extraction Techniques

Nora Adel Mohamed Hasan;

Abstract

In the present thesis, studies on the radiochemical behavior of some significant elements in nuclear field using ion exchange and solvent extraction techniques has been carried out. The studied elements have been chosen for their significance in nuclear field, as well as in industrial, environmental and biological fields. Their isolation and separation from large volume liquid solution is an important task in nuclear field, where large volumes of liquid effluents are produced from various nuclear activities. The most important aim of this thesis is to study the adsorption and removal of more than 12 radionuclides in presence of each other from real radioactive waste solutions resulting from production processes of some radioactive isotopes under various conditions. Conventional ion exchange resins as well as locally synthesized inorganic ion exchangers in addition to novel materials as graphene oxide and some of its composites have been applied in the present study. In addition, solvent extraction technique using different kinds of organic solvents have been applied, for carrying out separation process.
