Analytical Study on Certain Functional Polymers

Nourhan Khaled Mohammed El-Afifi;

Abstract

‎Section A: General Introduction
It includes a brief idea about functional polymers, their properties, their classification, and their role in pharmaceutical technology.
‎Section B: Literature review
It includes a review of the structures, the chemical and physical properties of the studied drugs; Chitosan and Polyvinyl pyrrolidone.
Furthermore, it is concerned with different analytical methods, reported in the literature, which aim for the determination of the chosen drugs in pure form and pharmaceutical formulations.
‎Part II: Spectrophotometric Analysis of Certain Functional Polymers
This part is divided into two sections:
‎Section A: Derivative ratio, Ratio difference and Mean centering ratio spectra methods for simultaneous determination of Chitosan and Ascorbic acid
In derivative ratio method, Chitosan and Ascorbic acid were measured at 207.20 nm and 282.00 nm; respectively, the peak amplitude difference of the ratio spectra (ΔP204.60-202.90) and (ΔP268.00-230.00) was measured for Chitosan and Ascorbic acid; respectively for ratio difference method. Mean centering of ratio spectra was measured at 204.60 and 269.10 nm for Chitosan and Ascorbic acid; respectively.
These methods were applied for simultaneous determination of Chitosan and Ascorbic acid in bulk powder with mean percentage recoveries (100.781.29, 99.210.95 and 99.481.41) and (100.111.15, 100.540.86 and 100.290.95); respectively. In synthetic mixtures (98.930.54, 100.331.54 and 100.371.02) and (99.871.02, 100.061.06 and 99.881.41); respectively, and in pharmaceutical formulation (101.000.33, 101.330.34 and 100.110.19) and (100.001.00, 99.501.30 and 100.171.53); respectively.
