Diagnostic Accuracy of Diffusion Weighted Breast MRI Compared to Contrast Enhanced Mammography in the Detection of Cancer Breast in Dense Breasts
Reham Anwar Mohamed Farid;
Abstract
The study conducted 40 breast lesions in 32 female patients having dense breasts age range was 29-72 years with mean age 46 years + 9.93 SD.
The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of CEDM to DW MRI in the probably suspicious breast lesions in dense breasts after mammographic examinations.
The patients were classified mammographically as nineteen patients with ACR C (59.4%) representing heterogeneously dense breasts and thirteen patients with ACR D (40.6%) representing extremely dense breasts
Histopathological analysis for the forty breast lesions revealed that this study had nine benign lesions (22.5%) and thirty one malignant lesions (77.5%)
By CESM, there were twenty three lesions (57.5%) mass lesions and thirteen lesions (32.5%) non mass lesions. Four lesions (10%) showed no contrast enhancement.
CESM showed that the prominent characteristics of the malignant mass lesions were non circumscribed margin, heterogeneous or ring pattern of enhancement and intense contrast enhancement. Whereas, that of the malignant non mass lesions were focal, segmental or regional distribution of enhancement, clumped or heterogeneous pattern of enhancement and intense contrast enhancement.
