Nurses’ Performance Regarding Care of Patients Post Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomies In Critical Care Unit
Mustafa Mohammed Abdullah;
Abstract
Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is a medical procedure used for enteral feeding with the use of the natural digestion process of the gastrointestinal tract; PEG is performed using endoscopic guidance to insert a tube into the patient's stomach through the abdominal wall, The PEG procedure is an alternative to open surgical gastrostomy insertion, and does not require a general anesthetic; mild sedation is typically used. Nursing team members are responsible for direct and continuous care related to PEG by assessing the tube and the skin around it and to avoid complications (Rahnemai. Et al., 2014)
