Staff Nurses' Compliance with Preventive Measures of Occupational Health Hazards

Ensherah Mohamed Shafik;

Abstract

Nursing is one of the hazardous occupations where the risks of exposure to occupational and work-related hazards are high. These hazards involve biological risks from exposure to infectious agents, risks of chemical contacts, physical dangers, ergonomic hazards, violence, and psychosocial stressors. Primary prevention of workplace hazards is of utmost importance in nursing since most of the work-related diseases are preventable. However, nurses’ compliance with preventive measures remains suboptimal. Hence, occupational health and safety issues are deemed to be addressed in nursing research.
The aim of the study was to assess the staff nurses' compliance with preventive measures of occupational health hazards. This study was conducted in Ain-Shams University Hospital, El-Demardash Hospital, affiliated to Ain-Shams University using a descriptive cross-sectional design on a convenience sample of 135 staff nurses: 77 from Ain-Shams University Hospital, and 58 from El-Demardash Hospital.
