ARCHITECTURE AUTOMATION: THE INTEGRATION OF BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING (BIM) AND GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) FOR SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT FROM THE BUILDING TO THE URBAN SCALE
Hagar Mohammed Ibrahim Abdel Halim;
Abstract
Architecture automation and sustainability have become new trends in architecture. BIM and GIS integration (BGIM) is one of the automation methods that can help in achieving sustainability. It merges BIM detailed information and models with the big comprehensive data and models provided by GIS. This study aims to prove that BIM and GIS integration and architecture automation can be a supportive and useful tool to achieve sustainability from the building scale to the urban and city scales. Questionnaire tool was used to measure the architects and urban designer knowledge about these two domains specially the different scope domain and whether it would be useful to their work to achieve this integration or not. An integration methodology was applied to a case study (department of architecture at Cairo university with its surroundings) to detect errors which can be found in integration process and to provide solutions for them. Guidelines for integration, an integration adoption strategy, unified modeling language (UML) diagram and flow chart for different integration scenarios were suggested.
