Abstract


This chapter presents the IoT criteria methodology framework proposed in this study. It presents three main domains of proposed criteria and sub-indicators for each domain. It conducted the formulas proposed to be used in assessing IoT buildings. It also introduces the ways of evaluation that were used in developing the weightage of each indicator in this framework. The weights of this evaluation method are based on the average of two verified rating systems that are used in evaluating the smart and green buildings. Then the final design of the proposed criteria framework to assess the impact of applying IoT applications on the architectural buildings.
o Validity and Reliability of this method
The criteria framework weights of each indicator are derived from some previous validated two rating systems. Because of the limitations of IoT applications and generally the implementation, the practical validation or taking a sample of buildings could not be done in an effective way. Also, it could not be depended only on the green rating system as it is more focused on the resources and sustainability issues regardless the automation and ICT techniques in buildings. And it is possible to be developed into another specific bar scale, so as the weights of each attribute in the criteria framework.
This study concluded all possible parameters from exiting cases applied. It is based on the major existing disciplines in architectural building. And It is possible to be developed from other interdisciplinary views and further upcoming new techniques and industrial applications in the future. For example, electricians or engineers. with emerging new applications and cases, this model could be more developed.
This proposed framework will be used in the next chapter to assess the impact of applying IoT applications in selected study cases. It will also display the differences of applying IoT applications used and their levels of implantation. an online survey and personal interviews will be conducted to discussing the current enabling technologies, gaps and challenges, and recent developments of IoT in Egypt. Also, an action plan and an IoT design model proposal will be discussed.
