Abstract

Oral cancer is a type of malignancy which arises from different oral structures and it is one of the HNCs. OSCC is the most common type of OC and it is considered an aggressive type which arises from the epithelial cells of the oral cavity most commonly from those of the tongue.
The most common and effective treatment approaches of cancer are surgical removal, chemotherapy and radiotherapy or a combination of them. However, these treatment approaches have many aggressive side effects.
Therefore researchers’ concentration began to be directed towards NPs as a treatment modality of cancer because of their much less side effects on the patients and lower cost when compared to the other traditional used approaches.
Graviola (Annona Muricata) is a tree from the family of Annonaceae “custard apple” which is found in tropical and subtropical regions. It is one of the anticancer agents derived from natural sources. In addition, it has many other therapeutic benefits as anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, anti-arthritic, anticonvulsant, antiparasitic, antidiabetic and hepatoprotective effects, that can be used in different medical purposes. Graviola is characterized by its selective action against different types of cancer cells with minimal or no cytotoxic effect on normal cells. It has a clear apoptotic effect on cancer cells in a dose dependent manner. Moreover, it has an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of cancer cells by arresting the cell cycle.
