STUDIES ON CAPRINE FASCIOLIASIS AT SOHAG GOVERNORATE
FATHY SELMY SOHBY;
Abstract
In This study, 1200 balady goats were examined for detection of fascioliasis at Sohag Governorate. A total of (41) goats were selected from these animals for haematological and biochemical studies. From these goats, (6) female less than one year, (20) female (1-2 years), (5) males less than 1
year and (10) male goats (1 - 2 years) old .
•
The percentage of infestation according to presence of
fasciola eggs in faeces was higher in female (5. 77 % ) than males (2.00% ). Aged animals showed higher percentage of infestation. On the other hand, the infestation in females was higher than males (1.666 % and 0.833 % in females and males respectively) than young animals (0.50 % and 0.42% in females and males respectively).
• The main clinical findings of fascioliasis in infested goats were emaciation, depression, loss of weight, abdominal
pain during percussion on the liver area. Variable appetite of infested cases, dehydration, depression of the digestibility of food constituents, sunken eyes, pale or lcteric mucous membranes, easily detached hairs or alopecia on some body
areas and watery diarrhea with offensive odour. In some
• cases submandibular oedema, Jaundice,
year and (10) male goats (1 - 2 years) old .
