THE THREE DIMENSIONAL CUTTING PROBLEM AND ITS APPLICATION AT THE "GENERAL METALS C º

ZIENAB YOUSEF MAHMOUD;

Abstract

This thesis studies the three dimensional cutting problem, in which a stock of parallelpiped, has to be cut into smaller parallelpipeds, in order to fill a request of a certain number of each type, out of the parent parallelpiped. Cutting "Aluminum"at the "General iietals Company" is presented as a case study.
A review of literature of the cutting problem together with a description of the "General iietals Company" are given in chapter (1).
In chapter (2), the three dimensionel cutting problem as applied in the "General Metals Company" is given in a form of a model. Then the dynamic progs version of that model
is presented together with its solution, Finely a simplified version of the dynamic prog.model and its solution are given%
In chapter (3) a modeficstion is presented together with its solution. A numerical example for cutting "Aluminum" parallelpipeds at the "General iietals Company" is solved using the modefied model. For comparison the results of
the same example, as given by the method already used at the company are also presented in this chapter.
Comparison shows that the suggested solution is more efficient than the method already used at the company.
