Biopsychosocial Needs of Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Abstract
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is currently the fourth leading cause of death in the world COPD is a major cause of chronic morbidity and mortality throughout the world; many people suffer from this disease for years and die prematurely from it or its complications. It represents an important public health challenge that is both preventable and treatable (Vogelmeier, etal., 2017).
Assessing biopsychosocial needs for patients with COPD is very important because face a condition of existence is defined as performance impairment in everyday activities and reliance on long-term oxygen therapy, with limited functional ability and a significant psychosocial burden. Research suggests that patients with COPD have a high incidence of anxiety and depression, which has a significant negative impact on their quality of life so, Assessing physical, psychological and social needs for COPD patients is very effective for facilitating their recovery, helping them cope with any problems experienced(Annerika et al.2016).
