Basma Abdelrady Mohamed Abdelmohsen;

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the anatomical structures of the pelvic limb of the cat by using the cross-sectional anatomy (CSA) and computed tomography (CT) scan. Studying cross-sectional anatomy is significant as learning method and improved understanding the relationship of the structures, during dissection, and prepares the students for using cross-sectional imaging modalities such as CT and MRI in their clinical years. It is to add that, the anatomic images made in our study could be used as a normal anatomic reference during the diagnosis of the musculoskeletal disorders in this region.
This study was conducted following the ethical principles for animal experimentation adopted by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee tracked in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Cairo University (Vet. CU. IACUC) VetCU1111201808. The study was conducted on Twenty-four mature domestic cats obtained from private veterinary clinics in Giza, Egypt with average weights of 3.5-4.5 kg. with indication of euthanasia due to disease unrelated to the pelvic limb.
Eight of the animals were used before euthanasia for CT scan. It restrained in customized restraining frames and anesthetized by intramuscular injection of 22 mg./kg. ketamine. Four cats were then supported in sternal recumbence with the pelvic limb extended
