HEART RATE VARIABILITY IN OBESITY

Entesar Atef Elsayed;

Abstract

Obesity is associated with increased mortality risk supposedly due to cardiovascular disorders related to either continuously lowered parasympathetic activity or increased sympathetic activity. Our study establishes the relationship between obesity and autonomic regulation as well as left ventricular mass.
This study was carried out in internal medicine out clinic EI-Minia
University Hospital. The study included 30 individuals divided into 3 groups:
Group I: (Moderate obese group) included I4 persons 11 females and 3 males with mean age (32.1 ± 3.4 years) and mean of body mass index (34.5 53.07 kg/m)

Group II: (Severe obese group) included 6 persons 4 females and 2 males with mean age (30.66 ± 9.17 years) and mean BM1 42.33 ± 1.78 kg/m
Group III: (non obese group) included 10 persons 5 females and 5 males with mean age 311 ±4.67 years and mean BMI 23.23 ± 112 kg/m.
All persons were examined clinically and anthropometric study was done for determination of the degree of obesity.

Some laboratory investigations were done such as:

I- Lipid profile (triglyceride, cholesterol, LDL and HDL)
2- Haemoglobin concentration.
3- Random blood sugar.
Echocardiography were done for all groups for determination of left ventricular mass 24 hours holter monitoring data were calculated for determination of HRV.
