Abstract


Prostate cancer is the most common non- skin cancer in the U.S.A., and the second most common cause of deaths in American`s men after lung cancer. It is the second leading cause of death from cancer in men. Prostate cancer and its treatment commonly affect two areas of major concern to men’s physical, mental, and social health, namely, urinary and sexual function so, it`s important to assess and give a consideration to it. Patients with prostate cancer experience a high level of physical, social and psychological problems as urinary incontinence and stress caused by the disease and treatment processes. Dealing with prostate cancer using more beneficial practices and coping styles can effectively improve the quality of life (QOL) and reduce the side effects of cancer, and it`s treatment.
Aim of the study:
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of self-care guidelines on quality of life for patients with prostate cancer through the following:
• Assessment of quality of life dimension for patients with prostate cancer to detect their needs.
• Developing and implementing self-care guidelines for patients with prostate cancer based on needs assessment.
• Evaluating the effect of self-care guidelines on quality of life for patients with prostate cancer.
