Evaluation of Post-Operative Pain after Regenerative Endodontic using Photo-Activated Oral Disinfection versus Triple-Antibiotic Paste for Management of Necrotic Young Permanent Anterior Teeth (A Randomized Clinical Trial)

Abstract

The current study was conducted to compare regenerative endodontics for necrotic young permanent anterior teeth using photo-activated oral disinfection versus triple antibiotic paste in terms of clinical success and radiographic success. The study sample included forty (40) necrotic young permeant anterior teeth due to trauma in thirty seven (37) patients age ranged from 8 to 13 years. Children were selected from the outpatient clinic of the Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University. All the patient's guardians were informed about the proposed treatment plan. An informed consent for their approval to share in the treatment was signed. Furthermore, they were told about the follow up appointments to assess the outcomes of initial treatment and to discuss other treatment options if this treatment failed to meet expected goals. After clinical and radiographic examination, teeth selection was done according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then, the selected teeth were randomly divided equally into two groups. Group I: 20 teeth were treated with triple antibiotic paste (TAP). Group II: 20 teeth were treated with photo-activated oral disinfection (PAD). Regenerative endodontic procedure for both groups was done by main investigator. Clinical evaluation was done at immediate post-operative, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months and radiographic evaluation was done at immediate post-operative 6 and 12 months follow up periods.
