SOLUBLE INTER CELLULAR ADHESION MOLECULE-1 LEVELS IN PSORIATIC PATIENTS
Tarek El-Bakry Mohamed Bakry;
Abstract
Intercellular adhesion molecule-I (ICAM-1) plays a critical role in mediating cell-cell adhesion during inflammatory responses and the transendothelial migration of leucocytes. It is
found on endothelial cells, leukocytes and keratinocytes.
Recently the presence of a soluble form of ICAM-I in the
« circulation has been found, with increased levels being demonstrated in several skin diseases including, psoriasis.
In the present study the levels of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-I {slCAM-1) in sera of thirty patients with psoriasis and ten healthy controls were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
The followings were observed:
1. The age of the patients ranged from 18 to 66 years with a mean of 5.56 years.
2. The ratio of male to female patients was I: I
5. The duration of the disease ranged from 1 to 21 years, with a mean of 7 .65 years.
