Study of MicroRNA 203 and its target genes (Survivin,Cyclin-D) in circulating liver cancer stem cells in patients with chronic hepatitis C with and without H.C.C.

Omar Mohamed Mohamed;

Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma is the sixth most common cause of cancer, and ranks fourth among the causes of cancer-related death.
Major risk factors for HCC include chronic alcohol consumption, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Tumor progression is a complex disease process involving various factors, changes of various genes, and the development of multiple stages.
MicroRNAs have proven to be able to regulate different molecular pathways and checkpoints of the cell division cycle. Thus, microRNAs may play an important role in cell proliferation and apoptosis and possibly a key participatory role in cancer development.
miRNA 203 was demonstrated to be downexpressed in liver tissue of HCC patients.This study was conducted to compare level of miRNA 203 and its target genes (Survivin,Cyclin-D) in circulating liver cancer stem cells in patients with chronic hepatitis C with and without H.C.C.
This study was conducted in co-operation between Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department, Ain-Shams University and the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute “between” April 2021 to October 2021. 80 participants were included in the study and divided to four groups:
