Structure and Properties of Some Bio-Glasses

Ghada Elamir Ismail Shehab Elfalaky;

Abstract

The Ts values decreases in borate glasses willi increasing ZnO content
irom 0 to 35 mol. %, thai attributed to the increase in the loose packing
and transformation of the structure. This is may be related to the
forming rote of ZnO which competes with B2Oj for oxygen atoms
supplied hy Na^O describing the decrease in the formation of BOt anils
and consequenlly the decrease in connectivity of network Structure.
Also, ihe bond strength plays a competitive role in decreasing the TE
values. The bond strengths of Na-O, B-O, Al-O, and Zn-0 are 256.1,
80S.S,5H,and 159 (kJ/moI), respectively, so the decrease in T& values
is attributed to the replacement of B-0 linkage by the weaker Zn-0
linkage.
