Abstract


Abusive supervision among nurses is a significant problem within the profession and is recognized as a major occupational stressor or psychological hazard in the workplace. It creates a toxic environment with serious consequences to organizations and patient. Abusive supervision is a form of workplace mistreatment, but is more specifically defined under the category of destructive leadership because it requires the direction of abuse to be from the supervisor to the subordinate.
This study aimed at assessing the influence of abusive supervision as perceived by staff nurses on their intention to quit and the organizational citizenship behavior. Descriptive correlational design was used in carrying out this study. The study was conducted in Al- Ahrar teaching hospital which located in Zagazig city at Alsharaqiuh Governorate. This hospital affiliated to the general organization for teaching hospital and institutes. Study subjects were 171 out from 300 staff nurses. Criteria for selection are staff nurse have at least more than one-year experience with the current supervisor, work full time, accept to participate in the study.
