Ultrastructural Study of the Effect of Cycloporin A on Parotid Gland in Rats

Dalia hosny Zahran;

Abstract

Cyclosporin A (CyA) is a unique, powerful immunosuppressive agent of fungal origin. Compared with conventional immunosuppressives CyA lacks myelotoxicity "destruction to bone marrow" (Laupacis et al. 1982). It represents the first or a new generation of immunosuppressive agents that are capable of selective rather than broad-spectrum i:-nrnunosuppression (Miach 1986). CyA not only acts on T-lymphocytes and reduces their production of iymphokines, but also affects 'I.-helper far rnorc than T-suppressor cells, resulting in a net imbalance in favour of suppressor action or irnrnunosuppres5ion (Latipacis et al, 1982., Daley and. Wysocki 1984).
